FUND RAISING DINNER AT KARACHI

On the night of 16th April 2010, SOBA (Sargodhian Old Boys Association) organised a fund raiser for S.S.T.P.S.R (Sargodhian Spirit Trust Public School Rashidabad) at the PAF Museum, Karachi to raise money for scholarships. It is a yearly practice of the founders of the school to get the Old Sargodhians together to collect funds in order to create opportunity for the under privileged but deserving students of the country so that they can also enjoy the quality education at S.S.T.P.S.R. In 2007 and 2008 they were held in Islamabad. All the distinguished guests were none except the leading Sargodhians who came all the way across Pakistan to attend this program. Many companies were also invited who were generously donating money for sponsoring the students.

The program was compered by the professional hostess of “Breakfast at Dawn” on Dawn News channel, Miss Ayesha Alam Khan together with Sheharyar Ali Shah from KASB Bank. The program started with the documentary of the school which gave the audience a taste of what the school has become in its 5 years of existence. The visual claim of the “rise of S.S.T students” in the documentary was practically proved by the students in their skill while acting the three prominent scenes from the Shakespeare play “The Twelfth Night”, causing the audience to feel like watching the play in “The Globe” theatre.

This was followed by the address of the president of SOBA Chapter Karachi, Group Captain Nasir. After asking for the full support of his friends in strengthening Sargodhians Spirit Trust, he introduced the Principal Sargodhian Spirit Trust Mr Amanullah Khan on the stage. The Principal in an emotional speech asked the audience that because the main aim of the school is to provide leadership imbued
citizens to Pakistan, they must support the school although it may look like an elitist institution. They must remember that 25% students are in full scholarship.

Just before the dinner a Fashion Show was presented which had also specially been prepared by the S.S.T students. The first part of the show portrayed a range of specialized uniforms of the daily routine at the school and the second part which demonstrated the creativity of the students in how uniforms can be used in a creative way. Immediately after this, the delicious dinner which contained the best food of Karachi was served. This also gave the opportunity to the new and old Sargodhians to mix up and discuss their experiences.
The entertaining part started when the duo Zeb and Haniya were called on the stage. Their seven blues songs including the brilliantly performed two Turkish songs proved to be a magnificent dessert after the delicious food. In the meanwhile, Air Chief Marshal Farooq Feroze Khan presented a vote of thanks to the generous ones and directly said, “We need your money!” to all of the guests telling them that it is the best way to pay back to Pakistan.

The best performance of the show was the last, and it was when the compere called out a loud “Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan”. His name was enough to enthral the audience. He sang eight of his best songs which even tempted one of the Sargodhians to rise up and dance for his wife. Shafqat waved goodbye with his hit song “Mitwa”, which also marked the end of the night. All the guests at the dinner were on their seats until the last moment for which Shafqat Amant Ali holds the credit for his best performance ever.
